Ashley - Always a Child

I think this is an amazing story. Very thought provoking regarding the treatment of those who cannot be treated themselves. The "Ashley Treatment", gives the thoughts from the parents of a 9 year old girl who is serverely brain impaired (static encephalopathy). She cannot walk, talk or keep her head up in bed. Even swallowing food is impossible. Her parents decided to have her uterus, appendix and still-forming breasts removed when Ashley was 6 (showing early signs of puberty). They believe that this surgery will allow Ashley to receive more care and have a better standard of living by keeping her small and allowing her to be carried.
